"Life, after all, is spectacular and amazing all the time, whether we notice it or not." --Elizabeth Namgyel

The other day, I was washing dishes at the sink, and I noticed a hummingbird floating outside the kitchen window. Pointing the place out to Snark, we uncovered another find: its ultra-tiny nest, and what looked like last year's decaying nest only a few inches further up the branch.

Today, at the end of our morning hike, I spied another hummingbird, hanging in the air for just a glance, framed by the descending hills on either side, and then quickly dropping back to a tree branch, even harder to spot. I don't normally see these things.

Snark's eyes caught the movement of three deer on the hill as we climbed the trail to the ridge this morning. He also unearthed a treasure for Veggie Dog: an old, white antler lying in the leaves and dirt, which I trekked right pass without observing.

(After the hike, she fell asleep while chewing on her new prize.)

This past weekend was cold and windy with thoughts of snow. After feeling a bit confused about the drastic change in weather, I concluded the kitchen was the place to be: I baked a cake and a loaf of parmesan french bread.

(Honey spiced cake with caramel glaze)

Thanks to Snark, I made it to yoga class yesterday evening, despite being confronted by an extremely flat car tire just as I was leaving. I really appreciate him getting me there in time for the class, which I haven't been attending regularly. Just moving my body through the familiar (though rarely practiced in the last month) exercises was a big sigh to my system. I hugged my teacher at the end of class and told her how much I appreciated it.

Today is beautiful in the low 70s.
