weather update

It's true! We got snow this week and a couple days of freezing weather. The snow fell Wednesday morning while I walked to the book store where I volunteer. It didn't fall for too long and didn't stick, but was still pretty miraculous-feeling considering we live only about ten or so miles from Mexico!

When I got home Wednesday evening, Snark made dinner and I collected a big bowlful or green and red tomatoes, our peppers, and cut down all of the basil. We brought our lavender, marjoram, and thyme inside, along with some other potted plants. The sheets we covered the other outside plants with blew off in the night, so only some things survived the freeze. We're left with baby carrots, spinach, orach, arugula, peas, mint, and lemon balm. One tomato plant seemed to make it (it had been covered with a pillow case), but the eggplants and pepper plants didn't survive, so that's the end of the summer season for us. It's time to plant the autumn/winter seeds.
