one of those days

today's one of those days. actually so was yesterday. and maybe sunday was too, now that i think about it.

(this being a bit off subject, except that it's connected to sunday:
here is a picture of one of our coasters. i wanted to say thanks
to snark who did a ton of house cleaning on sunday.)

yesterday our little vdog had a traumatic morning. she was just beginning to snort her way through the front yard in search of the breakfast treats i was throwing around when she let out a squeal. she limped onto the porch, tail curled under. and after snark carried her inside and placed her on the bed, her back leg was thumping in pain; she seemed to just want to hide under the bed or under the blankets and was acting very despondent. she yelped when snark tried to examine the pad of her paw and in between her toes.

snark called the vet; we were guessing that perhaps vdog met up with a scorpion. the vet's office wasn't able to give him much advice over the phone, though, so we decided to bring her in. her vet office is in sierra vista, about 30 minutes away (we've heard negative reviews about the only vet office in bisbee, hence, driving all the way to sierra vista . . .). the vet we saw, unfortunately, wasn't very helpful. we did learn that any kind of insect sting or bite would be quite noticeable (and why couldn't they tell us that over the phone???). the vet suggested that vdog may have strained a tendon, but she didn't ask us any information about what the puppy had been up to during the moment when she suddenly became hurt (she was standing in the yard with her nose to the ground...an unlikely cause of a strained tendon). she also didn't ask if we had given the pup any medicine yet (we had). so the vet prescribed an anti-inflammatory for vdog and complete and total rest (yeah right) and told us to come back on friday (no way!). v-dog hopped her way, three-legged, back into the car, curled up in the back seat, her bad leg quivering.

it was a costly monday morning experience; the only thing it really did was to alieve our suspicions of a scorpion sting. waah. good news is vdog was acting more normal by the evening; mocking the vet's proclamation for 100 percent rest, she raced around the house, eagerly chasing us and catching beanie babies in her mouth. we're happy she's feeling better! yesterday was overcast and thundery, but never really rained: a perfect metaphor for how the day played out and how our bodies felt for most of the day.

today we began by feeling more on top of it. snark went (for the third try) to pump up his bike tube and tire. apparently it popped in the process. another brand new bike component that never even got to be used. he did change the oil in our car, though. one success! i volunteered with ren house today, but realized that the task i was working on (already half-way done) was one that i had already finished a couple of months back. so then i attempted to use one of the computers at the copper queen library, only to find out that they don't have microsoft Word on any of their computers . . . just a crappy, generic word processing program that doesn't successfully convert. i was planning on finishing my resume; another task thwarted.

did i mention my computer is currently dead? snark's working on trying to get it to work again: the power jack is broken; he just ordered a part online; yada yada. snark's computer doesn't have Word either. Very bizarre to feel like I'm suddenly transported to the 90s, a time when Word wasn't as integral to my computer writing capabilities as it is now.

vdog has her cone on today, so she looks quite pitiful and adorable simultaneously.

i just made some garlic, spicy pepper tea to pour on our dirt and spray on the leaves of our plants to hopefully stink out all those pesky bugs making permanent homes on our tomatoes and cucumbers and, well, on just about everything we're trying to grow.

hey, it just started raining!

THE END. (for now.)
