kpfa

listening to kpfa, my favorite bay area radio station, i heard part of a program that i think snark would like. explorations in science is hosted by theoretical physicist michio kaku. when i came into it, physicist paul davies was discussing black holes and worm holes, how to create worm holes, and traveling through time. pretty interesting stuff (even for a non science geek).

i also caught part of jennifer stone's program, cover to cover. she was feeling fury over dr. george tiller's recent murder. she read from susan faludi 's book backlash and quoted randall terry who has been in the news recently speaking against dr. tiller. stone says, "now i know that randall terry did not shoot dr. george tiller. the pope did not shoot dr. george tiller. but these people, these institutions, these sociopolitical forces are the ones that give a kind of permission to sociopaths, psychopaths actually, to flip out and do bloody murder."

here's my rough transcription of stone quoting him (he's quoted in backlash, but i don't have my book in front of me, so this rough version will have to suffice), "radical feminism gave birth to child killing." he says that these feminists "have vowed to destroy the traditional family unit. they hate motherhood. they hate children." are you kidding me?! this is such a false claim that i can't believe anyone would take him seriously. but people actually do. this is disgusting.

jennifer's stone's half an hour show from this afternoon is worth listening to. be forewarned, however, that she is prone to rambling. the host struggles to synthesize all of the materials she wants to cover during the show and in the last ten minutes the implied focus seems to unravel into something quite different. or at least it seemed so to me. while it may be difficult to follow all of her tangent musings, if you try, there are most certainly jeweled comments within.
