nine lives

snark and i watched a really great film last night. nine lives, directed by Rodrigo García, is the story of nine women; snippets of their lives are told as vignettes. as the film progresses, some of the women's lives intersect with the other characters' lives. our favorite vignettes were probably the first and the last. snark and i both cried during the first one, which shows a Latina woman in prison, her attempts to work hard, the bullying and intimidation that occurs from other women prisoners as well as the guards, and the heartbreaking visitation of the woman's young daughter.

try to find this film to watch. it is simultaneously beautiful and sad. at just under 2 hours of watching time, we felt there should be another hour of the film to indulge our growing connections to the characters.
