in my defense, we had a shoddy internet connection for a while, until snark figured out just recently that we could consistently get a signal if we stayed in one corner of the kitchen and didn't move the laptop anywhere else.
also, we traveled to sierra vista and tucson a couple of days in this last week, looking for furniture from thrift stores. those were both full day ventures and we came home exhausted with very little in the way of furniture. i'm not sure what the deal is in this area, but it seems people are willing to pay outrageous amounts of money for used, falling apart or partially broken, particle board or otherwise crappy nightstands and bookcases. this is the kind of stuff we find for free in the alleys of ft. collins or on the curb sides of madison. we couldn't bring ourselves to put down 30 or 40 bucks just because we're in AZ. so it looks like we may be low on furniture for a while, until we can find some reasonable prices and items at garage sales. luckily, the house came partially furnished, so at least we'll have beds if family and friends come to visit.
moving in is a lot of work. that's all there is to it. it's not the daily grind in the office or back breaking, monotonous work in a factory. it's fun, but it's still tiring at the end of the day. so, it's taken me a while to get to the photos, but i'm finally getting around to that. they are down below... but before that, i guess i still have more to say.
i planted 72 seedlings this week. we have a little greenhouse nursery sitting on a chair in the kitchen, soaking in the sunlight that comes through the large windows, morning through afternoon. so far chives, lettuce, cilantro, and turnip babies are coming up!
super snark started his job today at a Mexican restaurant downtown. hopefully that's going well for him.
veggie dog seems to be pretty happy in our new home. she's feeling better and is back to woofing at people walking by on the main street, keeing a vigilant watch on her territory (and beyond) in between her naps. right now as i type, she has settled herself in my lap as if she were a tabby cat and not a 30 lb. beagle.
walks around town with the pup are some of our favorite moments in the day. the numerous stairways lead up to narrow, hidden streets. from the road that curves above the last line of houses and on down through the precarious stairwells that lead back to the main street, we see red, blue, and multi color roofs; shiny or rusted tin roofs; china berry trees, cotton woods, agave plants larger than a grown man; yards littered with faded toys and tools, or sculptures, wood carvings, gardens. dilapidated miners' shacks and remodeled or makeshift homes thread in and out along the mountainside. dirt paths veer off to disintegrating foundations where one-room shacks once stood. on the east side of old town, crumbling walls are bright with graffitti art; spray painted images of the mona lisa and baraka obama linger beside monologues and manifestos.
and now...some photos:
